Who looks after your information?

Teens in AI is responsible for keeping your personal information safe. In legal words, we are the “data controller”. The person in charge is Elena Sinel, our CEO. If you have any questions, you can contact us at:

Why do we need your information?

There are a few reasons we need some information about you:

• To create your account so you can log in and access your courses.
• To track your progress so the platform knows which lessons you have completed and what certificates you have earned.
• To keep you safe and make sure the platform is working properly for you.
• To help us understand how you use the platform and to ensure everything is working correctly, we use reliable analytics. These tools help us enhance your learning journey, and we never use them to sell your details or display advertisements.

We will never use your information to sell you things or to show you adverts. We will never sell your information to anyone, swap it, or give it to companies that want to advertise to you - and we make every company that helps us run the platform promise the same thing.

What information do we collect?

When you sign up and use AI Adventures, we may collect:

• Your name and email address - so you can log in.
• Your date of birth and age - so we know you are old enough to use the platform.
• Your school or organisation - so we know where you are learning from.
• Your gender and country or region - to help us understand our learners and improve our programmes.
• Your course progress, quiz results, and certificates - to track what you have learned.

We only collect what we actually need. We do not collect anything extra.

What if you are under 18?

If you are under 18, we need permission from your parent or guardian before you use AI Adventures. If you join through your school or an organisation, they are responsible for making sure your parent or guardian has agreed before you get access. If you are unsure, please ask a parent, guardian, teacher, or programme organiser for help.

We ask for this when you sign up. Your parent or guardian can ask us to see, change, or delete your information at any time by emailing [email protected].

If you or your parent or legal guardian thinks you signed up without proper permission, please contact us straight away at [email protected], and we will sort it out quickly - we will delete the information within 30 days.

Is AI Adventures a safe platform?

Yes - we have designed AI Adventures with your safety in mind:

• No chatting with other users. You cannot message or interact with other students on the platform. This keeps you safe from people you do not know.
• Real people create our courses. Sometimes, AI tools are used to supplement the learning content. Our experts check everything before it is shared with you.
• No adverts. We do not show adverts on the platform, and we do not use your data to target you with advertising.
• No selling your data. We will never sell your personal information to anyone.
• Using security measures such as encrypted connections and restricted access controls to help keep your information safe.
• Trained people. Everyone at Teens in AI who can see your information is trained to protect it and keep it confidential.
• Nothing to buy inside the AI Adventures platform or individual courses. You can never spend money inside a course - there are no in-course purchases or paid shortcuts. Courses are paid for by parents, guardians, or schools, or offered for free.
  
  

Do computers make decisions about you?

No. Even though our courses teach you about artificial intelligence, we do not let AI or computers make important decisions about you on their own. Real people are always in charge of anything that matters, like your certificates or your account.

Who can see your information?

We only share your information with people and organisations that need it to run the platform:

• Thinkific - the company that hosts our platform. They store your account and course data securely on our behalf.
• Your school or programme partner - if your school or organisation arranged your access to AI Adventures, they may be able to see your course progress and certificates.
• Google - we use Google’s secure services for our internal administration.
• Payment providers - if a course requires payment, it is handled securely by Stripe or PayPal. We never see or store your card details.
• Analytics and communication providers - We use trusted companies (including Mixpanel and Brevo) to help us understand how the platform is used, improve our courses, and manage communications. These companies must keep your information secure and can only use it on our instructions. The full list is in our adult Privacy Policy.

Everyone we share your information with is required to keep it safe and is not allowed to use it for their own purposes - and never to sell it or use it for advertising.

Where is your information stored?

AI Adventures is hosted by Thinkific, a company based in Canada. Canada is officially recognised as having strong data protection standards, so your information is safe there.

We also use Google’s secure cloud services for some of our administration. Your data may be stored in different countries, but we always make sure it is properly protected wherever it is - we use special legal agreements (approved by UK data protection law) whenever your information leaves the UK or Europe.

How long do we keep your information?

• Your course and account information is kept for as long as you are enrolled, plus three years after that, and then deleted.
• Your certificates may remain accessible to you for longer, so you can always access your proof of achievement.
• Financial records (if you or your school paid for a course) are kept for six years, as required by UK law.
• If your school or organisation asks us to delete your information, we will do so - this overrides our standard timescales.
• If you or your parent or guardian asks us to delete your information, we will remove it from our systems, and it disappears from our backup copies within about a month (35 days).

Your rights

Because we store information about you, you have rights over it. Here is what you can ask us to do:

1. The right to see your information: You can ask us to show you all the information we hold about you.
2. The right to correct your information: If something is wrong - like your name is spelt incorrectly - you can ask us to fix it.
3. The right to delete your information: You can ask us to delete your account and all the information we hold about you. This is sometimes called the “right to be forgotten”.
4. The right to say no: You can ask us to stop using your information for certain purposes.
5. The right to a copy of your information: You can ask us to give you a copy of your information in a format you can use elsewhere.
6. The right to change your mind: If you (or your parent or guardian) said yes to something - like receiving our newsletter - you can change your mind and say no at any time.

To use any of these rights, email us at [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to check who you are before we can action your request. Your parent or guardian can also use these rights for you.

What if something goes wrong?

If there is ever a serious problem with the security of your information (this is called a “data breach”), we will act quickly: we will tell the UK data watchdog (the ICO) within 72 hours, tell your school or organisation within 48 hours, and - if the problem could really affect you - tell you and your parent or guardian as soon as possible, along with what we are doing to fix it. We will also tell you exactly what information was affected and what you should do, such as changing your password.
